Students of the Department of Insurance and Actuarial Science at Lagos State University of Science and Technology have emerged winners of the 2025/2026 CIIN Ambassador’s Pet Project Quiz Competition, organised by the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria held on Wednesday, 25th March, 2026. ‎ ‎The LASUSTECH team clinched first place ahead of University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Lagos State University (LASU) which finished as first and second runners-up respectively. ‎ ‎The competition, held at the College of Social Sciences 700-Seater Auditorium, was themed “NextGen Insurers Knowledge Challenge: An Interschool Quiz on the NIIRA.” It focused on testing students’ knowledge of the Nigeria Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025 and broader industry developments. ‎ ‎Speaking at the event, the CIIN Ambassador and project facilitator, Muiz Sanusi, explained that the initiative was designed to bridge the gap between students and the insurance industry. He noted that the platform provides students with insights into emerging trends, particularly the Federal Government’s Insurance Reform Act 2025, while also connecting them with seasoned industry professionals. ‎ ‎The keynote address was delivered by Ismail Ayanlere, Chief Business Development Officer at NOOR Takaful, who represented the President/Chairman of Council of CIIN, Rilwan Sunmonu. ‎ ‎In her remarks, the Head of Department, Insurance and Actuarial Science, LASUSTECH, Dr. Kuditat Banjo, described the programme as timely and impactful. She stated that it would deepen students’ understanding of the NIIRA 2025, foster collaboration among participants, and strengthen engagement between academia and industry. ‎ ‎The Guest Speaker, Oluwaseun Oyelere, delivered a session on the NextGen Insurers Knowledge Challenge, further enlightening students on the implications and opportunities within the NIIRA 2025 framework. ‎ ‎The event was graced by the President of CIIN, Yetunde Ilori, alongside faculty members, CIIN officials, and other professionals from the insurance industry. Speakers collectively encouraged students to remain confident, embrace innovation, and pursue excellence, noting that diligence and professionalism are critical to success in the evolving insurance landscape. ‎ ‎As part of the awards, LASUSTECH received a cash prize of ₦200,000 and a recognition plaque, while UNILAG and LASU were awarded ₦150,000 and ₦100,000 respectively.
