The Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative Limited (IDPIL) paid a courtesy visit to
the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, at the Lagos State University
of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
Prof. Odusanya appreciated IDPIL for accepting the invite and emphasized
the transformative impact a university has on its host community. “A university is an embodiment of a generation that will live forever,” he stated.
He noted that while much was achieved under LASPOTECH, far more can
happen with LASUSTECH, adding that the institution’s primary environment
must take ownership of the university.
The Vice Chancellor said the university is seeking ways to “blow up and
accelerate” its growth as it demonstrates tangible progress to attract deeper
involvement from stakeholders. “As we go anywhere, the name of the
University needs to go,” he stressed.
Otunba Ganiyu Segun Abiru, former Clerk/Permanent Secretary and now the
Executive Secretary of IDPIL, who was accompanied by Mr. Kunle Adelabu,
thanked the Vice Chancellor for the invitation, describing it as a privilege. He
commended Prof. Odusanya for staying focused on his goals, saying he had
been observing his leadership closely.
Otunba Abiru pointed out that the relationship between the university and
the town needed to be strengthened, despite Ikorodu having many influential
and resourceful indigenes. He urged the Vice Chancellor to build strong ties
with Ikorodu indigenes, specifically citing the Oriwu Club the foremost club
in Ikorodu as a platform that would positively impact the university if
properly engaged.
The visit ended with a shared commitment to deepen town-gown relations
and fast-track LASUSTECH’s development through strategic partnerships
with Ikorodu stakeholders.
